Description - Have teens create paper airplanes using whatever design they choose. Tell them they are designing for their airplane to fly. Have them write “MY LIFE” on the paper and when throwing it predict where it will end up. Have one of the teens try to catch the planes with a bucket only moving if needed.
Original Author - B D Beaver
Verses - Psalm 23:1-3
Questions - Did you have any plans or purpose when you were creating your airplane? What were they? How did your plans affect what your plane looked like? What modifications did you make to ensure that it would go where you wanted it to? What happened as soon as it left your fingertips? Did you try anything to make it do what you wanted it to after you threw it? If so, what? Did it seem to help? What did you have control over in this experiment? What did you NOT have control over? How is that like our lives in relation to God? Did your plane end up where you predicted it would? Why not? What are some additional things that could have happened to it in the air?
Application- Here’s the biggie: What would have happened if you hadn’t let go? As humans, we have this inbreed desire to control much, if not every part, of our lives. We try to control how we start, how we get there and how we end up. But as long as we know where we need to start and where we need to finish, the last part we need to worry about is letting go. Only then can God carry our lives to unimaginable heights.
